Soundmaps is a sound art project involving Hull City residents and visitors to be exhibited at four libraries as well as POP (Pride Of Place) Art Space Hull. The aim of “soundmaps“ is to encourage residents of Hull to hear their city and explore their environment in new ways. The locations for the recordings are deep rooted in the historical context of Hull. Residents pass these locations regularly. Alison Slack hopes to engage the community to listen, to evoke an aural emotion and to reflect on how sounds can be used to define the places where we live.

Alison Slack is a multi-disciplinary artist, having completed the Masters of Fine Art print media program at Concordia University in Montreal. Her work ranges from traditional print making to exploring new media and contemporary performance art. Alison has exhibited in Canada, the States, U.K., Sweden, and Berlin. My most recent exhibitions include a performance piece titled “Mobile Home” in Berlin, a touring exhibition with the Sketchbook Project in Brooklyn, as well as some etchings at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. Alison is the recipient of grants from Larkin25 and Hull City Arts, and the England Arts Council and has previously received a grant from CIAM, Quebec to produce an electronic art project titled “Appropriated Apiaries”.

We are very proud to have Alison’s work exhibited in POP. Please feel free to interact with it.
