At The Creative and Cultural Company, we create opportunities for the public to participate and engage with the arts. We support artists to develop an audience for their works, share their skills and enjoy feedback. We believe in democratising contemporary arts. We are enablers rather than gate keepers. Our team manage a number of Creative & Cultural art spaces, galleries, studios, stages, theatre spaces, training resources and rehearsal rooms in the North of England Including HIP (Hull International Photography) Gallery and our artists studios at Creative & Cultural Space 1. We organise regular exhibitions and events including Hull International Photography Festival – HIP Fest.
In previous years, we have hosted events like reCOGnition Festival. We also manage events or organise areas/stages/processions at other peoples events e.g. the Drumming procession & finale for the Hull City Of Culture 1st Celebration 2014, The Sing & Tell Stage for Freedom Festival 2014 and the Giant Jack Frost float for the Hull Christmas Parade 2014. We always have a number of exciting projects to work on and do project management for others. The World Drumming Network is now project managed by The Creative & Cultural Company and has thousands of enthusiastic members around the world.
Originally started as a social enterprise CLG by our multi award winning duo: Hull based Community Arts Facilitator/BBC Radio Presenter & Percussionist Alan Raw (CEO) and Hull based Carnival Arts Leader/ Television Producer/Art Teacher & Creative Projects Manager Darren Squires (Creative Director). With their 50 years combined experience in the Creative & Cultural Sector. The not for profit company was able to build on the reputation of these founders with numerous existing clients.
Our Board of Trustees bring expertise and a broad range of arts related experience to compliment our management team: Musicians, Promoters, Festival Coordinators, a specialist Arts Accountant, a Training Consultant, a Gallery Administrator, Invigilators, a Curator, a Radio DJ, TV & Film Producers, Carnival Artists, Workshop Facilitators and more. Keeping us at the leading edge of Creative & Cultural development.
A network of organisations, artists and businesses, was started in January 2014 called The Creative and Cultural Network. This has developed into a happily evolving creative & cultural industries network. Many more artists join every month and share examples of their work for exhibition consideration.
We are working with many partners and collaborators including: European Capitals of culture; San Sebastian 2016, Aarhus 2017, Pathos 2017, GF Smith, East Street Arts, Picture Frames and Art, Creative Projects Ltd, Culture Zone, Cape UK, Festival TV, Beverley Folk Festival, Hull Libraries, Music Industry Yorkshire, Princes Quay, Cornucopia Festival, Red Gallery, reCOGnition and other organisations nationally and internationally.
The key aims of the organisation are to: Engage the public, develop audience, encourage feedback and participation, democratise contemporary arts, curate inclusively, promote excellence, sustainability and good practice in the arts and culture sector; through networking, commissioning, training, advising, project managing and offering infrastructure and support to creators, schools, community arts groups and enterprises. To increase opportunity through enterprise links regionally, nationally and internationally. Expanding economic potential. Developing creative and cultural activities to the benefit of all.
We are very passionate about sustainability. The Hull office is in a solar-powered green business park for social enterprises called Arthur Street Enterprise Centre. We are also proud to be developing a creative environmental sustainability partnership with the Association of Sustainability Practitioners.
